Farm-to-Fork Loudoun® was an 11-day culinary celebration of locally sourced foods, which took place in July of 2011 and 2012. The mission, which we accomplished, was to bring together Loudoun’s fine farmers with restaurant chefs and owners to develop new, or strengthen existing, relationships. During the two year program, all participating chefs and restaurant owners purchased from local farmers and developed exciting, unique menus were 70 percent locally sourced including the county's best locally grown and raised beef, lamb and poultry and pork, fresh local eggs, produce and fruits!
Beyond those great synergies, when it’s all said and done we plan the project for and about the community in which it’s held - it’s about the synergy it creates, the excitement and buzz around that community’s name and ‘brand’, it’s ‘culinary businesses,’ ‘driving the meal tax’, about driving revenue to the farmers involved. It’s about the incredible amount of exposure our small team brings, to the community where the project is held, which in the end receives upward of a quarter million dollars in press – print, TV interviews both at the station(s) and via live shots. The success was measured, in not only how much media exposure Farm-to-Fork received, but also how many new patrons we drove into the many participating restaurants! Inspired by a current national movement that poses an important question – "Where does our food come from?" – this 11-day project was a huge success on all counts, became award winning and prompted the team to expand it to new markets in 2013!
